LabMol Team
The Laboratory for Molecular Modeling and Drug Design (LabMol) was established in March 2009, at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Federal University of Goiás. The laboratory is equipped with a powerful computer facility and molecular modeling and design softwares. At present, there are 16 members in LabMol, including 1 Professor, 1 Visiting Professor, 3 Research Associate, 9 Ph.D. students and 2 undergraduate students. The lab is generally interested on designing new drugs for the treatment of neglected tropical diseases and cancer, and also to develop new tools for predicting pharmacokinetics properties and toxicity, using the broad areas of computer-assisted drug design, cheminformatics, and structural bioinformatics.Dr. Andrade is an Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy at Federal University of Goiás, Brazil, and head of LabMol – Laboratory for Molecular Modeling and Drug Design, since 2010. She obtained her Ph.D. in Drugs and Medicines from the University of Sao Paulo (USP, Brazil), with an internship at the University of New Mexico (USA), under the supervision of Prof. Antony Hopfinger. Her research focuses on Computer-Assisted and Artificial Intelligence-oriented Drug Design, aiming at discovering new drug candidates for Neglected and Emerging diseases. Her research also focuses on the development and application of AI tools and QSAR models for the prediction of toxicity properties of chemical compounds. In 2014, she was awarded with the For Women in Science award from L’Oréal-UNESCO and the Brazilian Academy of Sciences in Brazil, and in 2015 with the International Rising Talents award from L’Oréal – UNESCO in France. In 2016 She has been elected to the Young Academy of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC), and in 2021 to the Global Young Academy (GYA). She was treasurer, vice-director and director of the Medicinal Chemistry division of the Brazilian Chemical Society (SBQ). Currently she is Board Member of SBQ, acting as adjunct treasurer. She is Associate Editor for the Artificial Intelligence in the Life Sciences (Elsevier), and is Editorial Board Member of Communications in Chemistry (Nature) and Journal of Chemical Information and Modeling (ACS).
